Biography

Tom is an editorial and commercial photographer based in London.

His background is in documentary and photojournalism with work ranging across issues of migration in Europe, Cornish trawler-men, the conflict in Ukraine and beef bans in India. He is a regular contributor to The New York Times and his first feature for National Geographic Magazine was published in 2020.

His work has been recognised in the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize and the Prix Bayeux Calvados Award for War Correspondents as well as being awarded as a winner in Magnum Photos 30 under 30, the Canon / Royal Photographic Society Undergraduate Bursary, an IdeasTap Innovators Grant and Portrait of Britain.

He has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, FOTO8 / HOST Gallery, Margaret Street Gallery and Third Floor Gallery and was listed as one of the BJP’s ‘Graduates to Watch in 2012’. In 2014 he was invited to take part in a visiting lecturer series at Cambridge University on the subject of documentary photography. He graduated from University College Falmouth with a First Class Honours degree in Photography in 2012.

When not taking pictures he can usually be found riding his bicycle on adventures at home in the UK or as far away as the Himalayas.
